Troubleshooting Navigation Issues¶
This page covers common navigation, positioning, and orientation issues that may occur while using the VR experience.
Common Navigation Issues¶
Users may occasionally experience one or more of the following:
- feeling disoriented after teleporting in a scenario that uses teleport movement
- facing the wrong direction after a scene loads
- being positioned too far away from an object they need to interact with
- feeling slightly offset from where they are expected to stand or sit
- confusion about whether a scenario uses teleport movement at all
Resetting Your View¶
If you appear in the wrong location or are facing the wrong direction, try resetting your view. The correct method depends on whether you are using the desktop application through Meta Quest Link or the APK version installed directly on the headset.
Desktop Application Version (Meta Quest Link)¶
When playing the desktop application through Meta Quest Link, you can reset your orientation using either the Meta Quest Link menu or, if available in the current scenario, the in-game reset option.
Option 1: Meta Quest Link Reset View 1. Press the Meta button on the right controller. 2. Select Reset View.
This is typically the most direct way to re-center yourself while using the desktop application version.
Option 2: In-Game Reset Orientation Some parts of the project also provide a Reset Orientation option through the in-game menu. This may be accessible through:
- the watch widget (Y button on left controller or B button on right controller)
- the Menu button with the three horizontal lines on the left controller
If this option is available and functional in the current scenario, it can also be used while playing the desktop application version.
APK Version¶
When playing the APK version installed directly on the headset, pressing the Meta button does not provide a Reset View option for the scenario. Instead, it typically only provides the option to quit the application.
For the APK version, you must rely on the in-game reset option instead.
In-Game Reset Orientation If available in the current scenario, use Reset Orientation through:
- the watch widget (Y button on left controller or B button on right controller)
- the Menu button with the three horizontal lines on the left controller
For the APK version, this is the primary method for resetting your orientation while remaining in the app.
Teleportation and Disorientation¶
Some scenarios use teleport movement. If you are unfamiliar with VR teleport controls, it is normal to feel briefly disoriented after teleporting to a new position.
To reduce disorientation:
- pause briefly after teleporting before continuing
- re-check which direction you are facing before moving again
- use the appropriate reset method if you no longer feel aligned correctly
- avoid repeated rapid teleporting if you begin to feel uncomfortable
Seated vs. Standing Play¶
For the best experience, choose either seated or standing play before starting a scenario and remain consistent throughout that session when possible.
Switching between sitting and standing during a scenario can sometimes affect your alignment, eye level, or distance from interactable objects. If this happens, use the appropriate reset option to re-center yourself.
Scenario-Specific Movement Differences¶
Not all scenarios use navigation in the same way.
- Some scenarios require the player to teleport manually between areas.
- Some scenarios place the player automatically where they need to be.
- Some scenarios may support menu-based reset tools, while others may not.
If movement feels incorrect, first confirm whether the scenario is supposed to use teleportation or automatic positioning.
If You Feel Out of Place in the Environment¶
If you are too close to an object, too far away, or facing the wrong direction:
- Stop moving for a moment.
- Check whether the scenario expects you to teleport or remain where you are.
- Use the appropriate reset method for your platform:
- Desktop app through Meta Quest Link: press the Meta button and select Reset View, or use Reset Orientation through the watch widget or Menu button if available
- APK version: use Reset Orientation through the watch widget or Menu button
- Reposition your real body slightly if needed.
- If the issue continues, exit and restart the scenario.
General VR Comfort Tips¶
Navigation problems can sometimes feel worse when combined with general VR discomfort. To reduce this:
- take a short break if you begin to feel dizzy, disoriented, or uncomfortable
- avoid rushing through repeated movement actions
- make sure your play area is clear and safe before continuing
- stop the experience if discomfort becomes significant
When to Restart the Experience¶
Restarting the current scenario may help if:
- your position appears clearly incorrect after loading
- reset tools do not fix the issue
- your facing direction remains wrong
- you cannot reach an interaction point that should be within range
If restarting does not help, additional scenario-specific troubleshooting may be needed.
